FAQ

monofilament

The right fishing line always depends on the water, target species, and technique. Monofilament lines are versatile all-rounders, fluorocarbon performs best in clear and heavily fished waters, and braided lines deliver maximum sensitivity. MAXIMA covers every application — from ULTRAGREEN as the timeless classic to BRAID for direct bait control.

Each MAXIMA fishing line is specifically tuned to a water condition and blends perfectly into the natural environment. Choose the environment you fish in, and you'll find the right MAXIMA line for it.

Monofilament lines offer controlled stretch, strong knot strength, and high abrasion resistance. MAXIMA ULTRAGREEN has been the reference for generations: soft enough for precise casts, yet tough enough for demanding fights. A true all-rounder. Mono has a clear advantage over braid on rocky or sharp-edged bottoms.

The monofilament MAXIMA Originals has earned a worldwide reputation for extreme abrasion resistance and is used by many professional anglers as a leader material. Additional abrasion resistance is offered by MAXIMA Fluorocarbon and MAXIMA Monolith.

The better a fishing line blends into its natural environment, the better it stays hidden from a fish's eye. MAXIMA uses a unique process that gives every line its own distinct appearance. Colors also fade at different depths. Red is the first color absorbed by water — exactly the principle behind MAXIMA RED CHAMELEON, which visually disappears in deeper zones. Color isn't a question of looks — it's physics.

MAXIMA CRYSTAL IVORY solves exactly that problem. Underwater it disappears against bright, sandy bottoms, while staying clearly visible above the surface — perfect for bite detection in any light condition.

When line control is critical — for example, drift fishing, trolling, or spin fishing — MAXIMA HIGH VISIBILITY (HV) is the right choice. The neon-yellow color delivers maximum control without compromising performance. A perfect alternative for low-light conditions is MAXIMA FIBRE GLOW.

When fishing in the dark, orientation matters. MAXIMA FIBRE GLOW features a special color formulation that produces a glow effect in low-light conditions — keeping the line visible even in poor visibility.

QUALITY TIRES

MAXIMA PERFEXION is thinner, stronger, and more sensitive. Reduced stretch creates direct bait contact — ideal for experienced anglers who demand maximum control and feedback.

MAXIMA MONOLITH takes a different approach: abrasion resistance isn't applied as a coating but built into the entire material. Even with a damaged surface, the protective performance remains intact — ideal for fishing around rocks, reefs, and structure.

fluorocarbon

braid

Braided lines deliver maximum sensitivity and zero stretch. MAXIMA 8-Braid combines high tensile strength, smooth run, and an abrasion-resistant coating — ideal for precise spin fishing and modern techniques.

Fly fishing

In fly fishing, the leader determines presentation, rollover, and stealth. MAXIMA Knotless Tapered Leaders combine different material properties by design: a controlled stiff butt section for clean turnover, and a soft, inconspicuous tippet for natural drift. The fly lands gently on the surface and is presented with precision — even in difficult wind or casting situations.

The choice of leader material depends heavily on water type and fishing pressure. For all-round use, MAXIMA Ultragreen is the proven choice: discreet, supple, knot-secure, and highly abrasion-resistant. In extremely clear or heavily fished waters, MAXIMA Fluorocarbon offers near-perfect optical stealth. MAXIMA Chameleon excels in changing light and water colors, while MAXIMA Clear provides a balanced solution for any situation — reliable, abrasion-resistant, and versatile.

The clearer the water and the more cautious the fish, the longer the leader. The optimal fly fishing leader length depends on water, technique, fly type, and fishing pressure. There is no universal length — but there are proven guidelines:

→ Short leaders (7.5 ft / approx. 2.3 m) Ideal in wind, tight environments, or when streamer and nymph fishing — when control matters more than maximum stealth. The leader transfers energy more directly and turns over reliably.

→ Medium leaders (9 ft / approx. 2.7 m) The all-round standard for most rivers and streams. Perfect for dry flies and nymphs, offering a strong balance of turnover, drift, and stealth. → Exactly where MAXIMA Knotless Tapered Leaders perform at their best.

→ Long leaders (12 ft / approx. 3.6 m) First choice in very clear water, with cautious fish, or on still waters. The greater distance between fly line and fly reduces spook factor and allows an especially natural presentation.
